New Birth Registration Service Opens at Twerton Family Hub in Bath

Families across Bath and North East Somerset now have a more convenient way to register the birth of their babies, thanks to a new service at the Best Start Family Hub in Twerton.

Launched by Bath & North East Somerset Council on 8 October, the service allows parents to register their newborns closer to home, with appointments available every Thursday between 9am and 1pm.

The Best Start Family Hub, which opened in September, brings together a range of support for children, young people and families under one roof.

Alongside the new birth registration appointments, families can access information and advice services, as well as groups and drop-in sessions designed to help children get the best possible start in life.

Councillor Manda Rigby, Cabinet Member for Communications and Community, said:

"We are committed to making services as accessible and convenient as possible for local families. Registering a birth is one of the first important milestones for new parents, and offering appointments at the Best Start Family Hub means families can access this service closer to home – alongside a range of other support they might need to help children thrive from the very beginning. The new service also means that parents have five places where they can choose to register their baby in B&NES,”

The launch follows the successful introduction of the Registration Service's office within the Royal United Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which has enabled parents of sick or vulnerable babies to register their child without needing to leave them.

During 2025/26, the Registration Service registered approximately 4,500 births across Bath and North East Somerset at the existing locations in The Guildhall in Bath, the One Stop Shop in Keynsham, The Hollies in Midsomer Norton and the Royal United Hospital NICU.

The new Twerton service supports the council's commitment to bringing services closer to the communities it serves, providing families with a convenient alternative to travelling into Bath city centre and helping to reduce travel time and costs.

Parents and carers can book an appointment online at: www.bathnes.gov.uk/register-birth or contact the Registration Service on 01225 477234 to arrange an appointment.
